I've moved!!!! Click here to join me and Dylan at the new Dowdy Studio Blog. I'm sad to see the Pamela Michelle blog go, but who knows, I might pick it back up again and just post some fun ramblings, silly stuff and pretty things I find. But for now.....

Pamela Michelle will now be a part of Dowdy Studio. My husband, Dylan, and I have joined artistic forces You can find all my designs there along with all his tees, prints and new exciting things to come. With a new name, I also made a new logo for us! We hope you like our handsome, and cleaned up new look. We decided that since we've teamed up, we should probably roll out a new look. I had fun doing some hand-drawn type for it to give it a soft, yet masculine feel.

Thanks to all you guys + gals who have supported Pamela Michelle throughout the past 4 years. I love you all and hope to see you soon in my new adventures as a part of Dowdy Studio.

Dowdy Studio is getting a little redesign....ok, well a BIG BIG BIG redesign. Dylan and I have decided that since we've tied the knot and joined our lives together, we might as well join forces too and become one big super power of art, design and awesomeness.

Now that I'm officially a Dowdy, I'm going to infiltrate my way on into the Dowdy Studio and reap havoc upon the new Dowdy Studio in the form of cute birdies, flowers and adorable animals!! *evil laugh* BUAH HA HA HA!!!! Um, ok, so not really. We're actually going to be working together more, and do some of the same things we're already doing, and some new exciting things too!

Dowdy Studio will sell the same goodies you've seen throughout the past few years, and my shop, Pamela Michelle, will slowly close it's doors. Have no fear my friend, you'll still be able to find all my Pamela Michelle work online in the Dowdy Studio shop.

When it came time to decorate for our Jingle Bash, the Deco Squad planners (Cheyne, Laura and Larry) really wanted to echo the theme created in our gorgeous event fliers, by our own Christina of paperfingers. We decided to make a very simple felt garland that played on her beautiful leafy design. We ended up liking the garland so much that we wanted to share how to make it! It's seriously quick, inexpensive, and very versatile.

Not crafty yourself? Skip to the bottom to find out how you can win the tutorial example - a 12 foot handmade garland the perfect length to decorate a doorway or mantle!

You'll need:
- felt*
- scissors
- thread to match your most frequently occurring felt color
- sewing machin
- holiday music playlist worthy of your awesomeness. (Wham!'s "Last Christmas" on repeat is clearly your only option.)
- hot chocolate or coffee. (It works like magic, trust me.)

* We approximate the felt turns into at least 6 feet of garland per half yard of 36" wide felt on the bolt. So if you'd like at least 18 feet, buy 1.5 yards total. This is approximate and will vary on the leaf size, the spacing when sewn together, and how conservatively you lay out your leafs for cutting.

STEP 1

Choose your garland color scheme and gather your supplies. The Deco Squad chose the colors to match our Jingle Bash artwork. I'd love to do a gorgeous aqua and silver/grey garland!

STEP 2

Turn up "Last Christmas" on high volume, get that hot chocolate close to you, find a table to get to cutting. This step is clearly very important.

STEP 3

Cut your felt into nice little leaves. We made the ones for the Jingle Bash fairly large because we need to cover larger areas. I made my example leaves about 3 inches long. If you're not comfortable with a trial and error approach of cutting directly on the felt, draw out some leaves on paper and hold/pin the paper to the felt and cut around your drawn shape. After you've found the shape and size you like, it's easy to hold the original leaf onto the felt and cut replicas. Don't like our shape or need to print out a template? Click here to help you find something you like.

STEP 4

Work out the placement of your leaves. I chose three colors for the example garland so the colors would alternate well.

Tip: You can pin your leaves to each other or on to a tracing paper backing if you aren't comfortable with placing them as you sew. Just rip the tracing paper off after it's sewn together. I chose to skip this step because I found it was easier to play with the placement as I sewed.

You should be able to keep a straight stitch down the middle of the garland, catching the bottom/side of each leaf as you sew down. If you chose not to pin your leaves together, just add each leaf as you sew, paying attention to placement. Here's a tiny video of how that's done:

Tip: You may find that stitching in a curve back and forth catches more of each leaf and make a more structured garland. Be prepared to play with it a bit! And don't be completely scared of the seam ripper if you don't like your first try!

Warning! This requires your hands to be very close to the needle. Please be aware of where your hands are. I've sewn through my fingernail (not with this project). I don't recommend it. It doesn't leave a cool war wound, it's mainly just painful and scary.

STEP 6

Drape it up on your mantle, on your tree, or in the doorway. Pretty!

Put your own spin on it! Sew some ribbon on the end to tie to things, sew a short version with ribbon ends and make a grecian headband, choose super high quality wool felt and make a scarf! Show us what you make!

New intern!!!!

Meet my newest intern. His name is Chester and he'll be answering your emails and writing blog posts from time to time. He's really good at it! He has an English degree from the vet....er wait, that was shots and vaccinations, but whatever....same thing right? He's pretty qualified for this job. I'm thinking of hiring him on full time. These kind of interns are great, because you can pay them in catnip and kitty food.

Any which way, Dylan and I are really excited about our new baby intern kitten, that I've made a new print just for him. Since we're from Texas and are big ridiculous cat lovers, we thought it was appropriate. Find this big boy in my Etsy shop here.

Indie Genius party last night.

Last night our friends over at Indie Genius had a soft opening of their new concept store. Indie Genius was created as a response to the public's demand for a more permanent Urban Street Bazaar. The shop is filled with awesome and we're really excited to be a part of it.

Here's a shot our booth. It includes both Dylan and my work, as we have now decided to move forward as one art business in the upcoming months: Dowdy Studio. Big changes are coming, but more on that later, let's get back to Indie Genius....

We were happy to run into some of our Etsy Dallas freinds! One Up Designs, Three Yellow Starfish and Cut Out and Collect. After this pic we had a 10 min group hug and a high-five off.

One-Up's sweet space. Includes loads of vinyl decals, humorous pencils and always cool artwork.

Maggie May I's school room look charmed the crowd.

Tefi's booth picture is suffering from My iphone Camera-itis. But it looks really really pretty in real life. Promise! Her new fabric art pieces are amazingly cute!

Right as you walk in you see this beautiful boutique for Three Yellow Starfish! It looks so perfect and sweet!

Sorry my postings have gotten a little sparse. We've been busy! My honey, Dylan and I finally tied the marrital knot and are living the happy bliss of married life.

Urban Street Bazaar + Pamela Michelle

I decided to sit out this Urban Street Bazaar so that I could focus on marrying my sweetheart, Dylan. I was incredibly bummed to miss out because the Urban Street Bazaar is one fun handmade street festival. It takes place 2-3 times a year in the Bishop Arts District in Dallas. With anywhere from 50 - 95 handmade artists selling in the streets and live music and all the cool shop in B.A.D., this show is not to be missed. Especially this one, because it is the LAST ONE!!!

LAST ONE!?!? :(

Well, after crying for hours and soaking up my tears over missing the last Urban Street Bazaar, I saw a little glimmer of happiness. Julie, the owner of Make in B.A.D., and the producer of the Urban Street Bazaar asked if I could design a poster for the last show.

HELLS YAH!

So I said yes.

So, I can't be at the show, but I can be there living through my poster artwork in spirit. yay!

Today: Supplies Me! Sale and taking a picture with Dylan

Today I volunteered at the Etsy Dallas Supplies Me! sale. For this event Etsy Dallas members cleaned out their unused craft supplies from their studios and offered them for sale to the public. Many crafters and art enthusiasts came by today to pick directly from the stashy stashes of goodies. I myself found a large gallery style canvas, cufflings pieces, and some jewelry making goodies. So exciting!!!

Right off the bat, the place was packed! So happy to see a big turn out for our first time event.
I worked the Etsy Dallas table where members donated their goods to be sold to raise money for Captain Hope's Kids, a local charity that supports homeless children. We raised a good amount for them and we are happy to see the community's support too!

Make Shop * Studio also donated 4 gift certificates for our raffle. So 4 lucky people went home today even happier than before!

During the show, I tried to get a snap shot of my lovely fiance, Dylan. He was being goofy.

Etsy Craft Party in Dallas!!

The Etsy Craft Party kicked off at 7pm Friday night and people were at Make Shop * Studio early ready to party!

Make And Etsy Dallas put together 2 awesome free crafts for our partiers to do, no sew bunting and fabric flower brooches!

All the crafts everyone turned out really cute. Dallas really has alot of crafty talent!!

Paco, the handmade donkey pinata hung out all night in our Etsy Dallas Photo Booth modeling with his new friends and their silly props.

See! Paco is so good at holding a pose.

We had 5 free raffles of free handmade goodies and crafty supplies. At the top of the evening, we did our biggest raffle, a brand new Kenmore Sewing Machine!! Then Make Shop * Studio offered up a surprise raffle for $100 card for free classes at Make! We are so happy for our 6 lucky winners who probably all muttered "I never win anything" right before they're numbers were called.

The evening ended like any 5th birthday, with the busting of a pinata. We were sad to see Paco go, but happy to find him stuffed with tasty candy and treats! Don't worry, we saved his head, and will properly mount him on a plaque. So you may see him again in our next photo booth!

Thanks to all who came and helped us put this party on. We had so much fun celebrating Etsy's 5th birthday.

Craft Party in Dallas - Handmade giveaways!

Along with handmade magnets, notebooks, bubbles, kazoos, keychains, stickers and more, you will also get a handmade felt moustache-on-a-stick.

Etsy Dallas will have 100 of these party favor bags to give out. So how do you get one? Easy! Get your pic taken in the Etsy Dallas photo booth with you or with your friends, and each of you will get your own party favor bag just for coming to the party. It's our way of saying thank you for supporting your local handmade artists, designers and crafters! But when we're out, we're out and you'll just have to enjoy some great tunes, free crafts and party!

Want to make your own Moustache-on-a-stick? Pamela Michelle has put together this easy step by step how to guide for you to do it at home.

So grab some supplies:
- Felt
- scissors
- long popsicle stick or craft stick
- hot glue gun
- sharpie
- moustache template (download here) from Lisa Welge

Now let's get to it:

Step 1
Pick a stache from the template, print it out and cut it out of the paper. If you're up to it and want to free hand your own mustache, and skip to step 3.

Step 2

You'll need 2 pieces of felt that are slightly larger than the template you just cut out. Lay them on top of each other, with the mustache template on top, then trace around the template onto the felt with a sharpie.

Step 3

Cut out your moustache shape

Step 4

Place your craft stick in between the two pieces of felt. Keep the stick off to one side of the moustache so that you can hold it to the side when it's finished.

Step 5

Grab that glue gun, but be careful of the heat! Ouch! Peel up one side of the moustache from the outer edge and smother the felt in hot glue. Work your way from the middle of the moustache to the outter edge, and slowly lay the top piece of felt back down as you glue. When you're finished gluing, press the 2 layers together, but be careful that the glue isn't too hot still . When finished with one side, do the other side.

Step 6

Let your mustache dry. Trim off any uneven edges that might have happened while you were laying the two pieces together.

Step 7

Model that stache!!! Show it off and take some pics, wear it to work or school or to a party! Moustache-on-sticks are great for graduations, dance recitals, weddings, moving the lawn! There just isn't anything you can't do better without your new moustache on a stick.

Hey D.I.Y'ers, here's a fun little late night project to do in the comfort of your own home ( I don't recommend in public...but I will applaud you if you do). Oh and guess what!!! This is a contest. How to Project: Making some Jorts and Jeeves.
Materials:
1. One pair of jeans
2. One pair of scissors
3. A couple of beers or drinks of choice
4. One digital camera
5. Flickr, Facebook, Tumbler, blog, etc.

Step 1 - Take your jeans and cut them into shorts. Jeans + Shorts = Jorts.

Step 2 - Put them on.

Step 3 - Take the cut off legs and put them on your arms. Jeans + Sleeves = Jeeves.

Step 4 - Model your awesome new outfit and snap a pic with your camera.

Step 5 - Post your most creative pics online for the world to see. (Blog, Website, Flicker, Photobucket, etc)

Step 6 - Leave a comment on this post with a link to your Jorts and Jeeves pic and your email address.

This Weekend: Homegrown Music and Arts Festival

Dowdy Studio and I will be present at the Homegrown Music and Arts Festival with our friend Eye on the Sparrow Designs. Come out and listen to some great local bands and have some fun with us. If you missed us at Renegade in Austin, here's your chance to get your hands on some great Dowdy Studio tees for your summer wardrobe.

Homegrown Music and Arts Festival

The HomeGrown Music & Arts Festival is going to be an annual celebration of just that - HomeGrown music, HomeGrown art and, most importantly, HomeGrown fun. There will be two stages featuring 15 bands that are among the best the metroplex has to offer performing many genres and styles of music. You’ll get to meet local art galleries featuring local artists’ works. We’ll have cool, live art demonstrations throughout the day, many vendors with goodies and services you don’t even know you need and want so bad, and much more.

Renegade Austin! This weekend!

Renegade Craft Fair is coming to Austin this weekend!

This FREE TO ATTEND craft, art, design and DIY spectacular will run from 11am – 7pm each day + feature over 200 of today’s finest indie-craft talents from all over the nation!!

You can expect to find all sorts of incredible handmade goods at the Fair! Get a sneak-peek of who will be setting up shop at this year’s Austin event on the Artist Page!

We hope you’ll join us by biking or taking public transportation to the Fair! If you’re driving, the Palmer offers low-cost parking in their garage just adjacent to the building!

Printing Spring Bash Goody bags

The Spring Bash is just a week away! On Saturday May 1st the best of the best indie artists, designers, and crafters will fill the hall of South Side on Lamar with all their goodies.

Dylan printed the 50 free goody bags again this Bash. These goody bags are stuffed full with awesome handmade donations from the artists at the Spring Bash and our Sponsors, and fellow friends. They will be given out to the first 50 shoppers.

I got to watch Dylan print the bags, and it was incredible to see so many all at once, before they get stuffed with goodies and given off to their new homes.

Urban Street Bazaar Recap

This past weekend Oak Cliff in Dallas got a colorful explosion of modern craft artists crowding and celebrating in the streets for the 10th Urban Street Bazaar

Etsy Dallas, the original local craft collective, will offer up quality handmade goods from over 50 local artists and designers on Saturday, May 1st from 11am-5pm. In the spirit of supporting the local handmade movement, the Bash will be held at South Side on Lamar (1409 South Lamar St.) a local historic gem in the heart of The Cedars neighborhood just south of downtown.

Along with hand-picked locally-made goods, the Bash will offer up live DJ music, free charity raffle, photo booth, DIY crafts, and 50 free goody bags stuffed with top quality handmade swag. Admission is free. Sponsorship packages available on our web site. Come on out to the Bash - a hip, modern craft event full of shopping, music, and handmade good times. Think of it as a celebration - not just your typical craft show!

My life in pictures

I haven't had much time to write about my adventures lately due to my hectic holiday schedule, so I present to you a bunch of pictures for you to enjoy. This should explain my happenings and whereabouts for the past month errrr so. Oh yah, And I'm totally not going in order because Blogger is terrible at rearranging pictures.

November: The Girlie Show rocked! It was in early November in Oklahoma City. This was my second year to participate as an artist, and I do hope it'll not be my last. LOVE THE GIRLIE SHOW!

August: At some point in August we participated in a Party like a Pirate street festival in the West End, Dallas. It was a beautiful day for pirates and artists.

December: On our way to San Francisco to participate in Renegade Craft Fair. Dylan looks angry. But he's not. Just tired. This was about 20 hours into our road trip.

We got iced/snowed in on our way back to Dallas. It was Christmas Eve and we were stuck in Abilene, TX for the night. We were literally 2 hours away from hearty home cooked meals and family, then this happened.

September: Etsy Dallas celebrated it's 2nd birthday this year. We celebrated with cupcakes and friends and good times.

Maybe September too: I showed my artwork at the Coffee Haus Downtown in Arlington, TX. They have the yummiest vanilla latte I have ever tasted. For reals!

Dylan proposed in November! weeeeeee! We are now working our way through the wedding planning. Fun! I'm so excited to be marrying my best friend and the greatest boy I have ever known.

We went venue hunting right when we got home from our trip to San Francisco. We were so lucky to find this awesome converted water filter building for our wedding. It's going to rock!

November: My friend, Karmacrochet, made me a bad assed knitted scarf that I sewed some of my handmade buttons. I LOVE this.

It's been busy crazy time over here. Now time for a nap. I like to take inspiration from Dylan and Lulu's little cuddle fest on the couch. MY TURN!

2nd Annual Jingle Bash - Coming up!

Make your way to the Sons of Hermann Hall on November 21, and shop from over 50 hand-picked artists, designers and crafters selling their modern handmade goods. Dowdy Studio and Pamela Michelle will both be there selling our shirts, jewelry and art.

On hand will be art pendant necklaces, vintage-inspired décor, screenprinted tees, modern handbags, vinyl record jewelry, hip crocheted winter-wear, felted necklaces, and soap in the shape of dentures. (No, we aren't joking.)

When you're done shopping, belly up to the bar for a beer, great home cooked food, and a game of pool. Or grab your brewski and head back out for a second round of shopping.

Artist booths will fill the Hall upstairs in the ballroom and downstairs in the bowling alley and board room. Enjoy live music and DJ tunes throughout the Hall to keep you rockin' and shoppin' all day long.

Holy cow holy cow!! Our Bash shows were just voted as Dallas' "Best One-Stop Shop" in the coveted and uber popular Dallas Observer's Best Of annual issue. It's on stands today!!

This is a huge. mega. deal. Here's the write-up:

Sure etsy.com—the online boutique community for crafters, jewelry designers, knitters, tailors, bookbinders, vintage sellers and collectors of everything—is a surefire way to kill an afternoon and build up a wish list, but an Etsy Dallas event is even better. Prices are great, the craftsmanship is fantastic, it feels good to support local crafters and you'll still cover everyone on any gift list you might have for the next two years. But the downside is you'll also empty your bank account with little to no effort without some preventive measures. We have a friend keep us from purchasing on the first lap through the show. We spend only cash (even if a booth takes cards). And we buy no more than we can carry on our own person. It's hard, but, well, you gotta leave something for the rest of the shoppers to look at. On the other hand, screw everyone else, retail therapy rocks! The Etsy Dallas Jingle Bash takes place November 21 at Sons of Hermann Hall. Sharp elbows stimulate the economy, people.

In case you're wondering, What the heck is the Bash?, let me fill you in. The Bash is the premier arts and crafts event in Dallas that we started back in 2008. The Bash is put on by Tefi Designs and Pamela Michelle, with support from the Etsy Dallas leadership team: Larry, Carrie, Cheyne, Alicia, Mandi, Dylan, and Randi.

When Dylan of Dowdy Studio isn't printing up some mean whale patterns for the Super Sneaky Collaboration, he's in his studio working on his one line of screen printed clothes and prints.
Something new Dylan will be revealing for the first time at the Dustbowl Arts Market is his hand-dyed and printed tees. The hand-dyed look is great for achieving that vintage worn look without the vintage worn tee.
Dylan's also been making little mini prints. He'll have a few for sale at the Dustbowl Arts Market, so get your hand on them before they're gone. And if you aren't fast enough, you'll be able to find them in his Etsy shop soon.

Not only are we working on our Super Sneaky Collaboration Project, but we're also working on our own creative endeavors. Each one of us has something new from our personal collections to present at the Dustbowl Arts Market too.

I've been creating some new mini handmade wood necklaces that will showcase for the first time ever at the Dustbowl in Norman, OK.

Also new, but not brand brand new are my revamped Art Necklaces. Each one is made by my hands from a mini print of one of my original paintings. So you can wear art around your neck all the time.

From the Super Sneaky Collaboration Project:
Located in a small studio in Dallas, TX, Pamela Michelle creates and designs original artwork in wood, on canvas and on paper that you can wear, hang, love and enjoy.

Pamela Michelle started in the mid '07s by the designer and illustrator Pamela Jackson, as a way to unleash her imagination on the world, with modern influences and a Scandinavian twist. Her line of jewelry includes unique handmade wooden necklaces, oval art necklaces and wooden rings. She also sells prints of her original paintings and on occasion her original paintings.

Pamela Michelle was born and raised in north Texas. When she was a little girl her father would let her play in his wood shop and teach her the basics of wood working and other things most little girls didn't get to experience. She spent most summers with her grandparents in Arizona, where her grandmother would take her on nature hikes through the mountains to go bird watching, and her grandfather would enlighten her about her rich Scandinavian heritage. All three of these influences are apparent in Pamela's work today which she claims "a part of my heart is embedded in each painting or illustration I create."

When not creating, Pamela Michelle is very involved in the local artist community. Pamela co-runs a group in Dallas called Etsy Dallas that's main focus is to support the handmade community of artists and designers. Each year Pamela focuses on planning 2 big indie craft shows to showcase this blooming indie talent, the Spring Bash and the Jingle Bash.

Pamela also really enjoys working with others and collaborating on creative new and innovative projects. Pamela, along with Cheyne and Dylan are all very excited to showcase their Super Sneaky Collaboration Project for the first time at the Dustbowl Arts Market in Norman, Oklahoma.

See the secret that is the Super Sneaky Collaboration Project designed by Dowdy Studio, Pamela Michelle and Cut Out and Collect at the Dustbowl Arts Market, a open air, all handmade market focused on originality and innovative art on Campus Corner in Norman Oklahoma from 10am-6pm. In the spirit of being collaborative, these 3 designers, who are leaders in the handmade movement in Texas, have kept their collaborative designs top secret until now, and will showcase and sell them for the first time at the Dustbowl Arts Market.

Shevaun Williams, a nationally renowned commercial photographer, who often houses the 3 young designers when they come into Oklahoma says “These are innovative, young artists from the Dallas area. We can learn so much from these young designers through their interest in collaboration, groundbreaking ideas and commitment to a vision.”

Collaborative efforts between artists can encourage growth and spawn innovative ideas as each artist is forced to view their artistic medium in new and different applications. Dylan of Dowdy Studio, an artist birthed out of the great state of Oklahoma, hand-prints his original hand-drawn designs on tshirts, and has recently teamed up with his girlfriend, Pamela Jackson of Pamela Michelle and friend Cheyne Little, of Cut Out and Collect to create new collaborative designs. Pamela Michelle has been creating handmade wooden and art jewelry inspired by her paintings since 2007. The Scandinavian decent is apparent in her retro-modern and youthful illustrations and designs. Cut Out and Collect originally began as Cheyne Little's attempt to avoid graduate school and has grown into a line of one-of-a-kind handbags, accessories, and home decor items known nation-wide. Born in Oklahoma City as well, Little has deep family ties to the University of Oklahoma and comes home for the Dustbowl Arts Market.

Look what we made last weekend!

Ok, so last weekend was incredibly hot. But that didn't stop us from jumping into our workshop with no AC and building a new TV stand. Side note: sweat and sawdust do not go good together.

Anyway, before building this bad boy, we have been using an old IKEA coffee table to hold our TV, electronics, and DVD collection. We needed so badly to switch it out, as our feet had nowhere to rest when we were watching movies, and anytime we wanted to have a drink or dinner infront of the TV it was a big pain to drag over our two tiny side tables to use as a mock coffee table.

My heavylifting honey, Dylan, and I busted away for about 3 hours on this baby. He designed, cut all the pieces out of wood and put screwed and glued it all together, and I watched/kinda managed while I was building some frames for my paintings. So, really I didn't do much to help with this project, but I like to claim that I helped...maybe a little in the moral support department, I guess. It turned out pretty nice, and I love it so much more now that we've placed it in our living room and retired our coffee table to be once again a coffee table again.

How to make a boring wall less boring

So I know you're wondering: Pamela, how do I make that really boring wall less boring without spending a bazoozle of money?

Well, I'm here to help ya out. Follow my simple instructions and soon you will have a less boring wall, you will be much more happy and your family and friends will think you are a home decorating genius! I just did this to my boring wall, and suddenly things aren't looking quite as dull, my life now has more beauty in it and I can finally relax knowing that a big boring wall isn't bringing me down.

Step 1: Take a good hard last look at that boring wall. Take a moment to collect your feelings and say goodbye. Letting go is the first step in moving forward. Tissue?

Step 2: Collect some old frames. I found my frames for dirt cheap at a local thrift store. The ones I found varied in sizes, colors, and designs. Most of them had ugly old mass produced art prints still living inside them, so I wasn't too worried about ripping them apart.

Step 3: Rip them suckers apart! Take all your frames home and take off the backing,old artwork, and pop out the glass. You may need a pair of pliers to open up the backs of the frames, but for the most part they should all come apart pretty easily.

Step 4: Now that you have just the frames, you can paint them or stain them. I chose to use black spray paint to color mine, since most of my furniture is black. It matched! Spray paint is great for this project because it goes on evenly and doesn't leave brushstroke marks. Pick a color that goes with the decor of the room. Do you have lots of red accents? Then use red. Do you want to stay pretty neutral? then pick a color close to your wall color.
Step 5: Arrange your frames in an interesting layout. Lay them out on the floor first and get them exactly how you want them to look on the wall. Then one by one hang them up with a hammer and a nail. I chose to do an asymetric design with some small frames inside some big frames and set them all about an inch apart. I also had a cute helper to hold the frames up while I stepped back and made sure they were in the right spot. **Cute helper is optional for this project, but highly recommended**

And now you're done! Look at the beauty that is your new wall decor. Now invite all your friends over for cocktails and bathe in the "ohhs" and "ahhs" they'll be showering you in. And when they say "Oh my gosh! I love your decor! Who is your designer?" You can hold your head up high and exclaim at the top of your lungs, "Why, it's me!!!!"

My studio is getting purdy-a-fied

Check out this disaster zone. This is my studio mid-renovation. It's getting a major facelift! Since we moved, I haven't had the time to establish the oasis for creative bliss that I dreamt of. A break finally caught my path, and I've been painting an rearranging and organizing...well trying to reorganize around all the clutter. Right now my studio looks like one of those before homes on Clean House. A mess. You can just hear Niecy saying "Girl, what's with all this foolishness!"
Well, soon it will be all back in place and clean and fresh! And Niecy will be exclaiming "Ok family, take off your blindfolds and open your eyes!" And I'll be all like "WOAH WOW!" Then I can finally get back to creating masterpieces in my oen little oasis of creative bliss. yay!

Oh, and the mostest fun part: Purchasing new artwork to hang on the walls! I finally have a place to showcase all the artists that I've been drolling over for the past few years. I'm truely excited!

Here's another sneak peek into Dowdy Studio, Cut Out and Collect and my sneaky collaboration project. Dowdy Studio printed his Grand Whale in a repeat pattern on this light blue fabric. Soon Cheyne, of Cut Out and Collect will have made something super sneaky too, and we will put them all together to create something super amazing!

Ok, so it's not entirely "super sneaky", otherwise I wouldn't be talking about it. But in order to pretend like I'm being sneaky I wont disclose in full detail what we're exactly doing.

As many of you may know, my boyfriend, Dylan of Dowdy Studio and I live, breathe and make art all day long. We honestly wouldn't know how to function without it. So when you're living in this state of mind you tend to hang out with other artists and designers that do the same thing. Only because no one else understands your constant babbling on and on of color combinations, paint preferences, design choices, fabric selection, etc etc. And when I say constant blabbing, i mean pretty constant. We do take a break every once in a while and blab about weather, current events, movies and other regular normal everyday stuff. Yah, so we're not entirely crazy.... just a little.

One friend in the indie design realm that we've grown very fond of is our friend Cheyne, from Cut Out and Collect. This girl can bring it when it comes to a needle and thread. She designs and creates handbags, wallets, and home decor using two hands, rare fabrics, an intense attention to detail, as well as a sense of humor.

So take Cut Out and Collect, Dowdy Studio and Pamela Michelle, and put us all in a room to hash out some amazing ideas and the creativity goes wild. We've come up with something so good, we just can't contain ourselves. We are truly excited to reveal the final project! So stay tuned!

This is a sneak peek into part of the collaboration. I've hand crafted 4 wooden buttons to be a part of something (or somethings) that I can't tell you about......yet!

These buttons are all hand carved in wood and painted by me. The illustrations are original designs, and these buttons can never be reproduced exactly as you see them here.

I'm super duper pumped about this and I can't wait to spill my guts about it. So stay tuned for more!

I've been in my studio all morning making jewelry, art and a mess. I used this paper towel to catch my paint drips while I was working in order to not be so messy. When I was finished, I looked down and was like "Woah!" I dunno if you see the same beauty as I do. You may just see a bunch of scattered paint blobs, you may be thinking "Oh gawd Pamela, get that trash off you blog!", or you just might I've gone balls to the wall nutty.I think it's really cool how you can create something really cool when not even trying to do anything. I love how all the bright colors bleed and run together as they soak into the paper towel.
Now that I've mentally classified this as "art", I don't know what to do with it. Should I continue using it as a drop cloth and make it even more colorful, or should I go out and buy a frame to put it in? Whatever I do with it, I'm definitely keeping it mentally logged in my brain for inspiration for my next painting project. I love happy accidents!

Reflections of a Sunny Day

While I was outside yesterday snapping some cool shots of my displays, I stumbled on a really fun thing to do with the window.

Me on one side, Dylan on the other, lots of super reflecty sunlight and there ya go: awesome photo opportunity. I just couldn't resist taking a thousandy pics. These are the best two. I have a feeling we'll be doing more.
Mr. Dylan is wearing his brand brand new Grand Whale shirt. It'll be making an appearance in his Etsy Shop shortly. Until then, you can see it here and envision how you'd look it in with tiny tiny legs and yellow pumps.

Display Project!

Task: Create some jewelry displays to showcase my rings and necklaces for two hip and local boutiques. One for Make, the hottest Dallas joint to pick up some killer handmade goods, and one for the Coffee Haus Downtown, my favorite and the cutest coffee house and boutique in the Arlington area.
Both displays were hand cut, sanded and painted by myself and my honey, Dylan. I designed them to showcase my designs in a way that was easy to view and fun to look at. Plus, gotta add a fun bright color into the mix! Love me some lime green!
Now I have a way to showcase my wooden rings, which kinda just sat around before!

This is a snap shot of my logo, which I hand painted in white. I think this part took the longest.

After one week on intensive labor, it turned out waaaaay better than I could even imagine. I'm so super happy with it.

A night at the Dark Carnival

We spent last night at the Dark Carnival at The Church/Lizzard Lounge in Deep Ellum. They had jugglers, people dancing on stilts, popcorn, cotton candy,fun dancy music and the list goes on.

I haven't been to the Church in years, so it was interesting to see the place still thriving and still the same, and yet different. They even have a new outdoor upstairs balcony that has a great view of downtown.

I only snapped one pic last night, since I was so distracted by everything else that was going on. In the past few weeks I delightfully had the pleasure of creating a few custom pieces for some very lovely people. I love any opportunity to create something new. It's especially fun when the requester says, "I trust you, make something pretty." Whoo hoo! how fun is that? I get to do whatever I want!!! So I went and had myself a good old time making some necklaces for a few special people.

These pictures aren't top notch, but it's all I had taken before these lovelies found their new homes.

This past weekend, Dowdy Studi o, Cut Out and Collect and myself made an adventurous trek through the hail, wind, tornado warnings and rain up to Oklahoma City, the home of the Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar and the famous Girlie Show. We were stationed in the college town of Norman, Oklahoma where we found storm shelter for the night in a very cool old 1920s(ish) house right near the OU campus. After a drink and nice long sleep, we prepared ourselves for the drive up to Oklahoma City to dance in the awesomeness of the Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar.

I always enjoy visiting other cities. Not only is it like a mini-vacation, but a great chance to meet some new amazing people. We went so far and actually met a funky gal who lives right around the corner from us. Jane Joss is a home decor must-have, and actually resides a stone's throw away in Arlington.

Indie Shopping at Oak Cliff Earth Day - Sunday

Oak Cliff Earth Day will feature over 100 exhibitors, including information booths, artists, performers, food booths, pet adoptions, blood donations, hybrid vehicles, childrens activities, and much more! It's located in Lake Cliff Park, so bring the whole family, and Fido, too.

Please walk, bike, or take the bus to the event, in the spirit of Earth Day, and to avoid parking hassles. Methodist Hospital is kindly providing parking and a shuttle for those who don't take public transportation.

ABOUT THE SPRING BASH
Kick off the spring season! Etsy Dallas, who first brought you the famous Beer-B-Q trunk show and the Jingle Bash in 2008, is doing it again - even bigger and better this time.

The 1st Annual Etsy Dallas Spring Bash will be held at the historic South Side on Lamar in the hip and up-and-coming Dallas neighborhood known as The Cedars on Saturday, May 16th from 11am to 5pm. The show will feature local handpicked artists and crafters, DJ tunes, Make & Take crafts, a free Etsy Dallas-sized raffle, and 50 free swag bags chock full of handmade Etsy Dallas goodies. This event is FREE to the public!

While this show will be family-friendly, the vibe will be a fun bash full of handmade love and good times. Think of it as a party - not your typical craft show!
